Main sewer line

Sewer backup in Calgary? We clear the main line.

Every drain in your house runs into one main sewer line. When it blocks, the water has nowhere to go but back up. We clear it, then camera it so you can see why it happened.

What’s going on

Water coming up the basement floor drain

Your floor drain is usually the lowest opening in the house. When the main sewer line is blocked, that’s where the water comes up first, and it gets worse every time someone upstairs runs water.

Several drains slow at once

One slow drain is a fixture problem. Several at once, or a toilet that gurgles when the sink drains, points to a blockage in the main line they all share.

Sewage smell or backup

A blocked main line pushes sewage and sewer gas back toward the house, often showing up first at a basement toilet, shower or floor drain. A smell on its own can also be a dried-out trap, and we check for that too.

How we fix it

We clear the main line first to stop the backup, including tree-root cutting where needed. Then we run a camera down it and show you what’s in there, like roots, grease or a damaged section, so you know if it’s a one-time clog or something that will come back.

If there’s damage, you’ll see it on screen before anyone talks about repairs. We clean, cut roots and inspect. We don’t dig up (excavate), line or replace sewer pipe. If repairs come up, we show you the defect on camera, and you get repair quotes from a contractor who does that work.

Questions

How much does it cost to clean a main sewer line in Calgary?

From $350, with the camera check included. The exact price is confirmed on camera, and the flat rate covers up to 3 hours on site. Most jobs finish well within that. If yours needs longer, we tell you before the extra time starts: $150/hr, or $200/hr after hours.

How does a main sewer line get clogged?

Tree roots get in through joints and small cracks and catch paper and waste. Grease, soap scum and sludge narrow the pipe over the years. And “flushable” wipes don’t break down the way the package says. The camera check after we clear the line shows you which one it was.

Why is water coming up my basement floor drain?

It's usually the lowest opening in the house, so when the main line is blocked, that's where the water comes up first. Clearing the main line stops it.

What if it clogs again?

If a drain we cleared clogs again within 30 days, we'll come back and clear it at no charge. For main sewer lines, that applies when the camera showed no roots or damage. If it did, we'll have shown you the problem and your options. It doesn't cover new blockages from wipes, grease or objects put down the drain.

Do you take emergency calls?

Yes. We're open 6am–11pm every day, and outside those hours you can still call or text and we'll get to you as soon as we can. After-hours visits (11pm–6am) add $100 to the service price, and any extra time beyond the included hours is $200/hr.
