Sewer root clearing

Tree roots in your sewer line

Roots are one of the most common reasons a main sewer line slows down or backs up, especially in older neighbourhoods with mature trees. We cut them out and show you on camera where they’re getting in.

What’s going on

Tree roots find their way into sewer lines through joints and small cracks, chasing the water inside. Once in, they grow into a net that catches paper and waste until the line slows down or backs up.

The signs are the same as any main line blockage: water coming up the basement floor drain, several drains slow at once, or a toilet that gurgles when the sink drains.

How we fix it

We cut the roots back with a root-cutting head, flush the line, then camera it so you can see where they’re getting in.

Roots grow back through the same joint, so we’ll tell you straight whether regular maintenance will keep it under control or the joint needs repair.

We clean, cut roots and inspect. We don’t dig up (excavate), line or replace sewer pipe. If repairs come up, we show you the defect on camera, and you get repair quotes from a contractor who does that work.

Questions

I have tree roots in my sewer line. What can you do?

We cut the roots back, flush the line, and camera it so you can see where they're getting in. Roots grow back through the same joint, so we'll tell you whether regular maintenance will keep it under control or the joint needs repair. If the camera shows the problem is past your property line, we'll give you the footage so you can take it to the City.

How much does it cost to clear roots from a sewer line?

From $350, with the camera check included. The exact price is confirmed on camera, and the flat rate covers up to 3 hours on site. Want it on paper? Add a written report with snapshots and the video for $250.

Can you repair the joint the roots are getting through?

No. We clean, cut roots and inspect; we don’t dig up, line or replace sewer pipe. We show you the joint on camera, and you get repair quotes elsewhere.
